Thunderbolt 3 is capable of delivering power to charge the battery on an MacBook Pro. If an AC power source is not connected to the laptop, it will try to derive power from the Aurora(n), unsuccessfully, and thus you will get this message on the Aurora(n) front panel: "Please connect external 12V DC power supply for bus powered Thunderbolt devices".
To resolve this, either plug in the AC power supply for the laptop, or use a powered dock that can successfully charge its battery while in use.
Lynx recommends a power supply that supplies 12 volts at 40 watts and has a 2.5mm barrel plug, positive center like like this one from DigiKey.
