Updates to the firmware on the Aurora can provide new features, correct problems and support new expansion products. The Aurora firmware updates have no impact on sound quality. If you would like to see what changes were implemented in a firmware revision before updating, refer to the notes that accompany the firmware updater download.
The Aurora Update program not only programs the Aurora itself, but can also be used to update many of the expansion boards available for the Aurora 8 and 16. From the Aurora Update main page, clicking "Select Unit to Update" reveals the installed expansion boards that can be updated by this method. The boards that can be updated from the Aurora Update program include:
- LT-USB
- LT-MADI
- LT-HD
After updating the Aurora firmware, the AC cable must be unplugged, and then re-connected for the new firmware to become active.
The following methods can be used to program the Aurora firmware:
A) AES16 (PCI). This requires the drivers to be installed and functional, and the card connected to the Aurora via Lynx CBL-AES1605 cables or an equivalent. Please note: The Aurora can NOT be programmed via an AES16e (PCIe) card.
B) MIDI Interface. This requires that the MIDI Interface drivers are installed (if required) and functional. The MIDI I/O must be connected bi-directionally: Midi Out to Aurora Midi In and vice versa.
C) USB or Firewire. A valid connection via one of these methods, with correct drivers installed and functional (when required), will allow the Aurora Update to program the Aurora EEPROM. Please note: the Aurora can NOT be programmed via thunderbolt.
